Industry-Specific Engineering

Different industries demand different assessments

Power generation, aerospace and defense, hydrogen and renewables, and rail and infrastructure: we provide specialized condition assessment, testing and monitoring services tailored to each industry's damage mechanisms and standards.

Power Generation — Gas Turbines

Gas turbines for power generation

Component-level life management for gas turbines in the era of hydrogen and ammonia co-firing.

01

Compressor blades: process compensated resonance testing (PCRT), blade tip timing (BTT) monitoring and nondestructive testing (NDT), including phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) and eddy current array (ECA)

02

Turbine blades: high-temperature creep evaluation, thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) and remaining life calculation for single-crystal (SX) superalloy blades

03

Rotors and disks: crack detection, material degradation assessment and life assessment

04

Fuel supply piping: integrity assessment, including hydrogen embrittlement evaluation and microcrack monitoring with embedded IoT sensors

05

Integrity assurance for refurbished hot gas path parts: life assessment, NDT and thermal barrier coating (TBC) integrity inspection

Supporting data: mechanical property behavior in the airfoil tip region over service cycles, and tracking of gamma prime (γ′) evolution in service-exposed blades.

Hydrogen & Renewables — Hydrogen Embrittlement Evaluation

Hydrogen & renewables

Piping safety for the hydrogen economy, from specimen preparation to real-time monitoring, all in one place.

01Hydrogen-charged specimen preparation

Electrochemical hydrogen charging of specimens, including charging at high temperature and pressure in an in-house-built autoclave (up to 172 bar / 2,500 psi and 340 °C)

02Hydrogen effect testing

Slow strain rate testing (SSRT), creep, FCGR and Charpy impact testing

03Weld integrity inspection

PAUT for detecting hydrogen embrittlement cracking

04AE-based embedded IoT monitoring

Acoustic emission (AE) monitoring of microcrack initiation and growth, with alarms by crack stage

Validation data: comparative fractography before and after hydrogen charging at 80 °C and 50 bar, quantifying hydrogen effects in the surface and center regions.

Rail & Infrastructure — Railways & Ports

Rail & infrastructure

Rail safety enhancement R&D

From wheel and rail wear to buckling of continuous welded rail.

In collaboration with Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) and Kyungil University, we evaluate wheel and rail wear and establish destressing criteria for continuous welded rail (CWR).

Wheel–rail wear testing and evaluation

  • Hardness, mechanical property and fracture toughness evaluation of EN 13262 wheel specimens and rail specimens
  • Wheel–rail wear testing (pin-on-disk, ASTM G99-23; ER7, ERS8, ER9 / 60E1, KR60)
  • Dynamics and structural analysis of straight and curved track sections to derive wear rates
  • Microstructural and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis
  • Issuance of accredited test reports under the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS)

Continuous welded rail safety

  • Buckling risk analysis for heat waves and climate change
  • Recalculation of the mean rail temperature (currently 20 °C) to reflect extreme temperatures
  • More reliable NDT-based measurement of rail longitudinal force
  • Contributions to revisions of the track maintenance management guidelines and track work guidelines

Expected benefits: Derailment prevention, lower life-cycle cost (LCC) and reduced buckling risk.

Smart port wire rope inspection

Real-time rope inspection toward zero serious accidents involving port cranes.

Magnetic rope testing (MRT) and magnetic flux leakage detection based on technology licensed from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). Applying inner and outer coils simultaneously improves detection performance (loss of metallic area, LMA < 0.5%). Detectable flaws: external wear, broken wires, basket deformation (birdcaging), diameter reduction, corrosion and kinks. Validation on a test bed at Kangwon Land has been completed, and commercialization is under way, progressing from prototype fabrication to performance validation.
